Solar powered fountainA solar powered fountain is an elegant and eco-friendly addition to any outdoor area. Sometimes what a garden needs is not another plant, but something more permanent and more romantic. But before making such a purchase, it is good to have a basic understanding of what is being purchased as well as what the benefits and disadvantages of such an item may be.

The basic solar powered fountain will consist of just a panel and a pump and will only operate on sunny days. If clouds are passing in front of the sun or if the sun has set, the water feature will stop spraying. If a person lives somewhere very sunny and only cares about having the fountain function during the day, then this basic type is a great option.

On the other hand, someone located in an area where it is often overcast during the summer months, should look into purchasing a solar powered fountain which comes with a battery backup. The battery will charge while sunlight is available. Then, when the sun disappears, the battery will allow the fountain to continue running.

There are many other benefits to a solar powered fountain. For one, these fountains are absolutely beautiful and can completely change the atmosphere of a yard. Also, they do not require fuel or electricity. This means that they are both inexpensive to run (the power of the sun is free) and harmless to the environment.
