A solar panel
or photovoltaic cell collects energy from the sun and converts it to
electricity. The amount of collected energy depends on cell size, cover
transparency, and optimal sunlight exposure.
A replaceable, rechargeable battery stores the electricity
collected from solar panels. A NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) battery provides
over 1000 nights of continuous recharging. NiMH batteries are also less
hurtful to the environment upon disposal than standard NiCad (nickel
cadmium) batteries. NiMH and NiCad batteries come sealed in the unit
to prevent corrosion.
An LED lamp emits light. Because there is no filament,
LED lights last longer and don’t waste energy by giving off heat.
Solar lights feature multiple LEDs for maximum brightness, and often
have an internal reflector to enhance and distribute light evenly.
An optional light sensor or timer immediately activates
lights at dusk, facilitating easy auto operation of your solar outdoor
lighting system.
