Solar
water heater kits are a very cost-effective use of solar
energy. Water heating is often one of the top three energy hogs of the
home. This is no surprise, given that it is required to satisfy such
daily needs as hot showers, laundry, and dishwashing. A lot of money
can be saved by relying on solar energy for water heating needs.
There are two basic types of solar water heater kits to choose from:
passive ones and active ones.
Passive, or thermosyphoning, solar heaters work on the principal that
hot water rises since it is less dense than cold water. For this reason,
the solar collector (where the water is heated by the sun) is placed
below the storage tank. Of these two options, passive solar water heaters
are easier to install.
Active, or forced circulation, solar water heater kits, on the other
hand, require pumps to move the water. These tend to be more effective,
but also more expensive. Also, while both passive and active kits are
almost maintenance-free, passive ones are more so.
Within these two broad categories, there are a variety of different
kits available. Some work better in different climates. Whether or not
a location has severe winters can make a difference as to which kit
is the most reasonable. Be sure to get all the facts about a particular
kit before purchasing it.
The money that is saved in the long run by using solar water heater
kits can be spent on a variety of things instead. Of course, money is
not the only important thing a person will be saving. The installation
of one of these kits also works towards saving the environment.
In this day and age, with the depletion of natural resources, many
feel that it is important to look for alternative energy sources. Kits
which rely on sunlight tap into one of those main alternative energy
sources-- solar power. Solar power is very useful because it is available
in an abundant and inexhaustible supply. In addition to that, the harnessing
of it does not cause any harmful greenhouse gases to be expelled. This
is not the case with fossil fuels, the current major energy source.
