Solar
powered pumps can perform a variety of operations. They are commonly
used in garden ponds and fountains. However, they are also very useful
for pumping well water in remote locations. In fact, solar pumps are
becoming one of the most favored means for pumping water.
Windmills are still often used for wells, but in some places, solar
powered pumps are replacing them. The number of solar panels required
depends greatly upon the depth of the well. The deeper the well, the
more power is needed. Therefore more solar panels may be required.
The major benefit of solar powered pumps is that they have no running
costs. Whereas many pumps are powered by fuel or electricity, solar
powered options rely solely on the power of the sun. This power is,
of course, absolutely free.
Also, because solar powered pumps are using the sun's power rather
than tapping into the electrical grid, they are much more environmentally
friendly. This is true in the sense that they do not require the depletion
of any non-renewable resources to function. More importantly, they do
not in any way cause adverse emissions to be released into the atmosphere.
