The transparent container of a solar cooking pot also aids in retaining heat. The clear material allows the light to enter but does not allow heat to leave. This is the same fashion in which a greenhouse operates.

A way to increase the effectiveness of a solar cooking pot is to prepare the food in smaller portions. This will allow the food to heat up much more quickly. For instance, potatoes would be better off diced, and breads as rolls instead of loaves.
