Plant a Tree! One Dollar Plants One Tree.
Trees are one of the most important plants on earth due to their unique ability to filter the atmosphere, provide shelter for animals and prevent erosion. Without trees, there would arguably be no atmosphere to live in and breathe, and it is undisputed that humans would have never evolved into what they are today without a healthy canopy of plants that encourage life in all its forms. Not only that, they look beautiful and are incredibly useful. Trees love carbon dioxide (C02), which is poisonous to animals as well as increases the greenhouse effect which warms the earth, but in the process of consuming CO2 they exhale oxygen which is obviously very useful. One of the best ways to offset a carbon footprint is by planting trees. In US cities alone there is 800 million tons of CO2 stored in trees and this doesn't include any forests, or anywhere else in the world. If this were converted to tax credits, which is how companies get away with dumping greenhouse gasses into the environment, it would cost 22 billion dollars. Imagine how much a forest contributes to the cleanliness of the environment. Trees also promote many forms of life by providing soil stability and shelter for animals such as birds, insects, primates, reptiles and many more varieties of life. If there were no trees to prevent erosion the entire landmasses of the earth would slowly erode and desertification would persist slowly turning the earth into the biggest sand dune in the solar system. Trees are the life support system of the planet, protecting and nurturing them is essential for their health, as well as ours. |
