Classical landscape light

A classical landscape light makes use of traditional design sensibilities in two possible ways. The first is if the lights are simply based off the older styles of the past. Coach or carriage lights and lanterns are common examples of this. These are classical light structures which may have met with more modern design surfaces.

The other way outdoor lights may tap into these aesthetics is through their embellishments. A classical landscape light may have a traditional structure as well as the ornate sculptural qualities of the past. With Modernism came an emphasis on simplicity of form and function. A truly classical or antique styled lamp would have a stronger decorative emphasis placed on the details.

Some people believe that they must have a classically styled home and/or garden to justify using a classical landscape light. However, many classic designs are capable of accenting a variety of styles beautifully. There is no reason to be afraid of using such a light with a modern-style home and garden. The contrast can be quite interesting, especially according to the tastes of contemporary decor.
