Solar Batteries

Solar power even helps out in the world of batteries, helping to save power and the environment without taking away or having to sacrifice modern technological conveniences. Several of these batteries are known as “Deep-Cycle batteries.” These types of batteries are a lead-acid battery design that is regularly discharged using most of it’s retention. The lower amps mean that the batter has to be substantially bigger because of the way it operates in providing a slow yet constant flow of energy to the application it’s powering. Deep-cycle batteries also work in what is called ‘cycles’ providing a power charge during each cycle. The cycles can perform anywhere from 50 to 80 percent discharge. Batteries are often kept at a 50 percent discharge in order to extend the life or amount of cycles that the battery provides.

On the other hand there are also solar powered batteries that help power electronics in cars and other big appliances. These batteries use short, high-current bursts of energy to send electricity to whatever it’s trying to power. The structure of the battery is fairly simple and made to be extremely safe for users, especially those that use the battery in a residence. Deep-cycle batteries have heavy lead plates that are extremely thick and have a high-density active paste material that helps the charge. For extra security, thick separators that prevent any leakage protect the plates and materials. Batteries are made to be completely safe for users and those who install them into the home. There are several applications where deep-cycle batteries are used. Some are even more in plain sight than you think! Common applications of deep-cycle batteries include: motorized wheelchairs, traffic signals, audio equipment, recreational vehicles, traction batteries, forklifts and trolling motors for fishing boats! Electricity demands are starting to grow, with more applications that need to be powered year after year. These batteries can be used in a number of different ways to save energy, money, and the environment.

The manufacturers who make all of these amazing batteries are aware of the environment, knowing that it is their duty to make a difference. The majority of deep-cycle batteries on the market today are lead acid batteries. This make the battery almost completely recyclable, 98% by volume and 99.5% by weight. The other parts of the battery are 100% recycled and recovered for reuse. The one portion of the battery that isn’t recyclable? The paper separators that wrap the plates. The rest is however and manufacturers make sure to take advantage of this environmentally friendly perk!
